Margaret Dollus Obituary

Margaret A. Dollus was born April 27, 1938, in Belleville, Illinois, the daughter of Erwin and Margaret Wehrheim. Margaret peacefully departed this life in Swansea, on Wednesday, August 20th, 2025. She was 87 years old.
Margaret (Peggy) and her husband Edward Jr., began their journey as husband and wife in 1958. Together, they built a beautiful home in Swansea, IL. In that home, they raised 4 children, Edward III, Desiree, Deborah Perez (Brian), and Bridget Allen (Ron). Throughout their lives, Peggy always showed her love and dedication to her family. She welcomed anyone who entered her house with open arms and a warm smile. Many birthday parties, celebrations, and family gatherings were held in their home. From ice skating on the lake, playing shuffle board across the basement floor, and having sleepovers, memories were made at the Dollus house.
As life moved along, Peggy was the proud grandmother of 4 wonderful grandchildren. Taylor, Mitchell, Rachel, and Stuart. It was at those times when she would bring life to celebrations and holidays in the Dollus house once again. From hiding Easter eggs in her backyard, to banging pots and pans with her grandchildren on New Years Eve at midnight overlooking the lake, Peggy never failed to make a moment special.
Peggy brought her joy to places all over the country and the world. With all 4 children, Peggy and Ed travelled across the country. Peggy and Ed went on many trips together when they were young. Peggy extended her travels with Desiree and Bridget to Alaska and Ireland and many other places.
In the last years of her life, Peggy continued to enjoy spending time with her family. Peggy joined her daughters Desiree and Deborah, and granddaughter Taylor, on "Friday Fun Night" as they went out to eat and enjoy Belleville, which would be known as "the town" by many members of the family. Many laughs were shared between Peggy, Desiree, Deborah, Mitchell and Rachel as they frequently played intense card games such as Rummy and Tripoli.
Many people loved Peggy, but her biggest cheerleader of all was her granddaughter Taylor. It did not matter if Taylor saw Peggy 1 day ago or 1 hour ago, Taylor's face lit up every time she saw her grandma. To Taylor, the Dollus house was her second home. Taylor knew every nook and cranny of Peggy's home, and made herself comfortable by Peggy's side every time she visited.
Peggy attended St. Henry's Grade School and Notre Dame High School. Peggy and Ed were the proud owners of Dollus Bros Shoe Store in Downtown Belleville. They extended their business into an apparel store years later. Peggy and Ed's impact on the community is remembered by many people to this day.
Left to mourn Peggy's passing are her children, Edward Dollus III, Deborah (Brian), and Bridget Allen: grandchildren, Taylor Perez, Mitchell Perez, Rachel Perez, and Stuart Allen: sister-in-law, Judy Wehrheim.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Dollus II, daughter, Desiree Dollus, brother, James Wehrheim, son-in-law, Ron Allen, brothers-in-law, Robert Dollus and Thomas Dollus and sister-in-law, Jeannette "Jan" Dollus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parent Teacher Organization of Exceptional Children (PTOEC) or to the Cathedral of St. Peter, Belleville, IL.
Visitation for Margaret and Desiree Dollus will be held on Saturday, October 18th from 9:00- 10:00 am at Green Mount Cemetery, Our Lady of Hope Chapel. A private mass will be held after visitation.
