Margaret Faye Massey, 95, died peacefully at her home in
Clovis, New Mexico on August 27, 2025. A celebration of her life will be held at First Methodist Church, Clovis, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 4 PM. A private internment service will proceed the celebration
Our beloved Margaret was born September 1, 1929, in Sweetwater, Texas to Jesse and Bessie Stagner. She had one brother, Dean, who proceeded her in death. Margaret was a child of the High Plains born in the midst of the Great Depression. Her early years were tough, marked by poverty and hard work, but her mother instilled in her a great faith and an incomparable work ethic that carried her through her entire life.
Margaret, at 15, moved to Clovis to work as a nanny for friends. She graduated from Clovis high school at 16. Shortly thereafter she was introduced to Arno Massey. It wasn't love at first sight. She thought Arno was arrogant and wasn't impressed. Arno, never was never one to shrink from a challenge that won Margaret over. They married on September 24, 1949, and were partners in love and life for 69 years when Arno passed in 2018.
" Let all that you do be done in love", 1 Corinthians 16:14. That directive summed up Margaret's life. Everything, every day was done with selfless love for her husband, her children, her mother and her extended family. Her love manifested itself in simple pleasures- her world-famous chocolate cake, and homemade ice cream and the most popular breakfast item-Nana's scrambled eggs. She had the uncanny ability to make the most basic meal, always special.
Margaret served in the infant nursery at First Baptist Church for many years where her loving care for each baby was legendary allowing young mothers to get a short break to learn about Jesus.
Margaret, in her unassuming way, was a bottomless well of wisdom, nurture, and love for her family, not to mention her razor-sharp wit, present right to the end. But perhaps her greatest gift was the love of her Savior and her unyielding faith passed along to her daughters.
Margaret is survived by her three daughters; Becky Wood (John) of Broadview, New Mexico, Sheila Brack (Bob) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Lisa Massey of Clovis; grandchildren; Ryan Tidwell (Kristen) of Albuquerque, Kelli Tidwell Bishop(Greg) of Albuquerque, Quentin Wood (Diana) of Broadview, Brian Wood of Clovis, Katy Brack Morrow (Jon) of Las Cruces, Christy Brack Ryan (Andrew) of Chandler, Arizona, and Carly Brack Marketto (Devin) of Las Cruces; great grandchildren, Dillon and Lexi Bishop, Kyle and Talynn Wood, Atticus and Amelia Morrow, Luke and Bridget Ryan, and Winry Marketto, along with numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother and her husband
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church (Mother's Day Out and Latch Key programs), 1501 Sycamore, Clovis, 88101.
