Margaret S. Schertz, 103, of Metamora, IL, formerly of Henry, IL, passed away at 11:11 am on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora.
She was born on March 31, 1921, in Eureka, IL, to Ellis S. and Clara L. (Smith) Sharp. She married Deryl L. Schertz on January 7, 1945 in Eureka. He passed away on December 29, 2016.
Surviving are her five children, Douglas (Laura) Schertz of Crystal Lake, IL, Suzanne (Joe West) Sharp of Depoe Bay, OR, Richard (Jeanne) Schertz of Moweaqua, IL, Scott (Nathalie) Schertz of Lacon, IL, and Ann (Sam Dong) Schertz of Piedmont, CA; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Kristina) Schertz, Steve (Amber) Schertz, David (Kristen) Schertz, Andy Schertz, Jason (Lisa) Schertz, Allison Dong, and Amy Dong; and four great-grandchildren, Keira Schertz, Michaela Schertz, Colin Schertz, and Samantha Schertz. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn (Harold John) Albrecht, Rosemary (Calvin) Hartter, and Geneva (John) Troyer.
Margaret was a teacher for six years at Putnam Grade School and thirteen years at Hennepin Grade School, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Christian Union Church and former member of Henry Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Margaret was also a member of Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Marshall Putnam Quilters Guild, Marshall-Putnam and Woodford County Extension, former member of the Marshall County Habitat Board, and a former 4-H Leader in Henry.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Christian Union Church with Reverend Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until service time, also on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Snyder Village Residents in Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548 or to Christian Union Church, 925 West Walnut Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
