Janet M. Steider, 86, of Peoria, IL, died on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Proctor Place in Peoria, IL.

She was born on March 17, 1939, in Peoria to Ralph and Marie Brown. Janet married James R. Steider on June 12, 1960, in Peoria.

Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband, James, who passed in 2022.

Surviving are her three daughters: Amy (Mike) Wildman of North Aurora, IL, Julie (Stan) Risinger and Becky Steider, both of Peoria; six grandchildren: Zachary Wildman, Ellen (Chris) Wildman So, Stephen (Camie) Risinger, Tyler (Morgan) Risinger, Chelsea (Jordan) Loudermilk, and Holly (Danny) Merdian; six great-grandchildren: Eisley, Lola, Ezra, Joie, Amelia, and Theodore Risinger; and sisters, Gerry (Don) Houk and Barbara (the late Robert) Hodgson.

Janet was an alumnus of Peoria High School and Bradley University. Upon graduation, she taught kindergarten in Bartonville, IL, before embarking on her favorite career which was being a mother and a homemaker.

Janet and her late husband Jim were founding members of Northwoods Community Church in Peoria.

She was a lifelong PEO sister and enjoyed playing Bridge. Janet's passions also included entertaining, baking, collecting cut glass, and traveling.

Janet loved being a grandmother and had a knack for making every occasion special for her family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Proctor Place for their heartfelt care and kindness.

A visitation will be held at The Wilton Mortuary on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Cal Rychener officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter (225 N Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601) or Proctor Place John C. Proctor Endowment Home (2724 West Reservoir Boulevard, Peoria, IL 61615).
