Marilyn L. Schertz, 91, of Metamora, IL, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 24, 2025. She was at home with her family by her side.
Marilyn was born on November 22, 1933, at home in Gridley, IL, to William and Carrie Belle (Hewitt) Guth. She married Richard D. Schertz on June 27, 1954 in Washburn, IL. Richard survives.
She and Richard had four sons, Rod (Jill) Schertz of Metamora, IL, Stan Schertz of Roanoke, IL, Reldon Schertz of Lowpoint, IL, and Sid (Paula) Schertz of Metamora, IL. Her boys blessed her with twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Bobbie Schertz, two brothers, Herb and Dick, one sister, Doris Guth Perona, and one step-brother, William Guth Jr.
She loved to plant, raise and arrange flowers. She could plant anything and it would flourish and bloom. Marilyn was an accomplished quilter and sewer. She cooked three meals daily for years and almost always had a homemade dessert. She kept an immaculate home and everything had its place. She worked on her home, plants and flowers up to the time of her death.
Marilyn knew Jesus as her personal Savior and was ready to go to heaven. She served faithfully at Metamora Mennonite Church for years and then at New Hope Community Church for 20 years.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with her son, Rod, officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time, also on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Stewart Harmony Cemetery in Metamora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
