Margaret M. Simon, a lifelong resident of Philadelphia and dedicated registered nurse, passed away on September 14, 2023, at the Philadelphia Protestant Home and at the age of 90.
She was born on December 28, 1932 to Cornelius and Catherine (Shevlin) McCarthy and raised at #129 on the famous Elfreth's Alley "Old City" Philadelphia.
Margaret's nursing career spanned over four decades, during which she selflessly cared for others at both Jeanes Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center. Her commitment to serving others extended beyond the workplace, as she volunteered for many years at Jeanes Hospital, the Philadelphia Protestant Home, and Saint William Church. Margaret's passion for giving back to her community was further evident through her involvement in various charitable endeavors.
Margaret was proud to be a longtime parishioner of Saint William Church, where she found solace and strength in her faith. She cherished her role as a special "Nana" to her extended family and many of her grandchildren's friends and neighbors, sharing love and wisdom with all who crossed her path.
In addition to her professional achievements and community involvement, Margaret found joy in spending time at the beach with her family, appreciating the time together and the calming presence of the ocean. Her kind and nurturing spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known her.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin M. Simon, Sr., her grandson Edwin M. Simon, III, and her siblings Neil McCarthy, Barbara Ann Pasquini, and Rosemary McCarthy. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Edwin M. Simon, Jr. (Barbara), Margaret-Mary Flamini (Joseph), and Mary Beth Simon, as well as her sister, Frances Green. "Nana" will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Daniel (Corey), Robert (Felicia), Ashley, Justin, Amanda, Christopher (Nikki), and Joshua (Megan), as well as her eleven great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Margaret's life Wednesday, September 20, 2023 from 8:30 AM until her funeral mass begins at 10:00 AM in Saint William Church, 6200 Rising Sun Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Following Mass, she will be laid to rest in eternal peace at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Margaret will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to others, her genuine kindness, and her profound impact on the lives she touched. Her family respectfully requests contributions in her memory be made to
