Maria Lynn (nee Wells), of Bloomfield, New Jersey, passed away Monday, April 24, 2023, at the age of 62, in St. Charles, Missouri, peacefully back home under her sister’s love and care. She is the daughter of the late Daniel Edward Wells and Shirley Ann Shoemate but regarded her Stepfather Marion Shoemate as her dad; dear sister to Lyn (Jerry) Anthoney and Sherry (Bob) Simms, the late Danny Wells, and the late Richard (Mae) Wells; treasured aunt of Stephen (Tina) Anthoney, Korey (Amanda) Simms, Kari (Chad) Henkelman, and Kristy (Alex) Chaparro, and the unconditional love by so many close and dear friends at New Jersey City University.
Maria dedicated her life to education by spending over 23 years as a tenured professor at New Jersey City University. She attended both Washington University as well as St. Louis University where she completed her PhD Doctorate in Psychology. She was a strong and driven individual and felt passionate about being a mentor and advocate for her many beloved students and coworkers.
Maria was a free spirit who lived her life her way to make a difference to others. She was an avid runner and enjoyed running Cross country at Lafayette High School in Ballwin, MO before it was a fad to keep her mind and body active. She had a warm heart and a gentle smile and valued those friendships in her life. She had a special place for all furry critters and loved her cats more than anything. Maria was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family wanted to thank all the BJC Neurosurgery Team doctors, nurses and aides that attended to Maria’s needs during this difficult time offering unending support and kindness. Memorials may be made in Maria 's name to Glioblastoma Foundation (www.glioblastomafoundation.org).

I remember Maria fondly when we worked together at NJCU from 2002 to 2003. We would sit in her office and talked about people in our lives and what was going on- both the good and the bad. We also talked often about music, especially the Blues. She shared her CD set of Martin Scorsese's collection of Blues artists, "Presents The Blues." Thanks to Maria, I am now a lover of the Blues. She truly cared about the people in her life, and I will miss her for this and other meaningful things.

Maria was one of a kind and epitomized love, compassion, generosity, intelligence, and honesty - in everything she did and with everyone she touched. I join my colleagues in mourning the loss of this bright light in each of our lives. She was more than a colleague but a dear friend who was always there. I will very much miss her....

I am so sorry she passed away. I had her this semester at NJCU for a brief time. In that brief time she was wonderful, very helpful and sweet. She was there for her students even when sick. That is dedication.
