WESTFORD - Marian K. Carlyle, age 94, a resident of Westford died peacefully Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Bridges by Epoch in Westford. She was the beloved wife of the late David Carlyle, who died in 2018.
Born in Toledo, Ohio on April 12, 1930, Marian was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Leber) Krost. She grew up in Cleveland and met her husband Dave at Case Western Reserve University where she worked as a secretary. Later in life, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in education with a minor in marine biology from Salem State University.
Upon marriage they lived briefing on a couple US military bases when Dave was in the service. Then they spent ten wonderful years in Syracuse, NY. Dave’s career prompted another move to Reading Massachusetts, where Marian raised her family and had a rewarding teaching career. She taught first grade at the J Warren Killam Elementary School in the Town of Reading, Massachusetts.
Throughout her life Marian was an adventurous traveler and she did her student teaching in Harrogate UK. In the 1980’s David’s career moved her again to Puerto Rico where they lived for 3 years. Exploring the world was important to her and they traveled to China, Europe and many US destinations over the years.
In retirement Marian and Dave moved to Otisfield ME to live on Thompson Lake and be close to the ski slopes. Both Marian and Dave loved skiing and were active members of the Prime-time Ski Club in Sunday River, ME, until the age of 75. Later in their retirement they spent their winters in Naples, Florida where they made wonderful friends in the Highpoint Community. Marian enjoyed being active, going to the beach, boating, socials, and gardening. However, one of greatest joys in life was spending time with her grandchildren.
Wherever she lived, Marian was an active member in her church the Congregational Church in Reading, the Casco Village Church in Casco, ME, and the United Church of Christ in Naples, FL.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Carlyle and her husband Rico Cedro in Chicago, IL; her son, Scott Carlyle and his wife Linda in Rye NH; and three grandchildren, Francesca Cedro, Raelyn Gray and Cameron Carlyle.
Marian was also the mother of the late William Carlyle who died in 2014.
It being Marian’s wish, there will be no visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
