It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marian E. Cortum Claman, 94, of Cantril Iowa, a woman of many talents and endless generosity, who passed away on Monday February 10, 2025. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Keosauqua, IA with Chris Sprouse officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the funeral home and will last until the time of service. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Marian Claman was born in Pulaski Iowa to Frank and Alice (Campbell) Cortum on June 29, 1930. She was united in marriage to Carl Claman on July 2, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska. She grew up in Pulaski, Iowa. She and her husband lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa, rural Pulaski, Iowa, and for many years lived in Mt. Sterling, Iowa before moving to Cantril, Iowa. In 1998. She worked as the Postmaster in Mt. Sterling, Iowa and Mt. Sterling restaurant and bar and later worked for Riverside Plastics for many decades (1973-2001) until she retired in 2001.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Claman, two sons Charles Claman and Robert "Bob" Claman, one grandson Jeremy Claman, one grandson-in-law Brian Shive, her parents Frank and Alice Cortum, one brother Leland Cortum, four sisters Marilyn Cunningham, Helen Hamberg, Catherine Songer and Leona Claman.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include three sons, Dennis (Nancy) Claman of Unionville, Missouri, Randy Claman of Cantril, Iowa, Ronald (Nicole) Claman of Cantril, Iowa., two daughters, Sharon (Kenneth) Boggs of Wright City, Missouri., Crystal (Robert) Wiley of Milton, Iowa, eighteen Grandchildren, thirty-four Great-Grandchildren, eleven Great-great grandchildren and numerous other family members including nieces and nephews.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Marian would agree that she was a very spirited and loved individual, who had endless love for her family and cats. She found joy in the simple pleasures in life, especially family gatherings, bingo and always had a jar of homemade jelly to offer her friends and family. She was an amazing cook; she was a long-time member of the Cantril Christian Church and helped to start the union at Riverside Plastics. She will forever be loved and missed; may her amazing spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
