Marie Genovese, 84, passed away Friday, March 1, 2024 at Hebert Nursing Home, Smithfield. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Assunta (Iannacone) Genovese.
Marie leaves a nephew, Giuseppe Genovese and his wife, children and grandchildren in Avellino, Italy and a close group of lady friends. She was predeceased by her longtime companion William E. Duffy, her sister Elvia Genovese Piper and her half-brother Giuseppe Genovese.
Marie's mother passed away when Marie was just 5 years old, her father raised her as a single parent when such a thing was uncommon. He remained her guiding light throughout her life. As a child she and her father ventured to the Jersey Shore for summer vacation.
Marie was very proud of her Italian heritage and visited Italy 8 times. She traveled throughout Europe, enjoyed dining out and traveling with her friends. She was especially fond of opera, classical music and loved listening to jazz which she would do on Friday nights. She was funny, happy and steadfast in her devotion to St. Joseph.
A private service and committal prayers will take place as Marie left specific instructions for her final disposition. Please share memories and condolences at www.WoodlawnRI.com.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and she would simply love if you had a hot fudge sundae in her honor.
