Marilyn passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living at the age of 97. She was born to the late Otto and Clara (Walter) Sparsam on December 2, 1926 in Bay City, Michigan. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust and was a member of Ladies Aide. She also volunteered at the Economy Center for many years. She always kept her house in pristine condition and enjoyed doing yardwork, especially mowing the yard. Marilyn was known for her laugh and her strong faith in the Lord that nothing could break. She loved spending time with her family, they were everything to her.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Jean (Frank) Floyd, Scott Appold, Julie (Patrick) O’Dwyer and Bruce (Anne) Appold; grandchildren, Abby (Jonah) O’Laughlin, Brianna O’Dwyer, Emily O’Dwyer, Matthew Floyd and Grace Appold; sister-in-law’s, MaryLou Appold and Julia Appold and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Appold; son, Dale Appold, brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s, Edwin (Melinda) Appold, Matilda (Gerhardt) Zeilinger, Robert (Alice) Appold, Loren (Carol) Appold, Wilma (Ernie) Zeilinger, Harold Appold and Floyd Appold.
Funeral Service for Marilyn will be taking place on Friday, September 6, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Paul Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis Matyas. The family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Gephart Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
