Marilyn Harris Hays, 96 of Covington, passed away Friday November 25, 2022, surrounded by loved ones at her home. She was born on September 9, 1926, to Mr. William McGarity Harris and Mrs. Ruth Thomas Harris Blackwell in Jersey, Ga. She moved to Atlanta at the age of 16 and began working at Warner Brothers Studios. During this time, she met and married the love of her life, Dixon Hays. They had two children together, Julius and Melinda. They lived in Mansfield on the family farm. She retired from Newton County DFACS after more than 20 years. She was also active in the community after her retirement. She enjoyed volunteering at Newton Medical Center Auxiliary where she made many friends. She was a member of Luther Hays Presbyterian Church for 72 years. Her church home was very important to her, and she enjoyed Sundays and visits from her church family. She was preceded in death by her husband Dixon Hays, daughter Melinda Hays Lord, Brother and Sister-in-law Jack and Julia Blackwell, Sister and Brother-in-law Ann and Harold Bird, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Pleas and Bettye Hays, Nephew Wade Blackwell, and Niece Jane Woods. She is survived by her son and daughter in law Julius and Jamie Hays of Covington, her son-in-law Jim Lord, her granddaughters Jessie Hays Whitwell (Zack), Jennifer Wilson (Eric), Rebecca Box (Stephen), and Mary Beth Lord (Rich), great grandchildren Hays Wilson, Kate Wilson, RJ Zamor, and Michael Zamor, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Luther Hays Presbyterian Church with Rev Blane Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Hays Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, or contributions may be mailed to Hays Cemetery Fund in memory of Marilyn Hays. J.C.
