CENTERVILLE, IN.- Marjorie Ann (Hensel) Howell, age 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of Aug. 18, 2025, at the assisted living facility at Arbor Trace in Richmond, Indiana.

Born on July 25, 1932, in Kenton, Ohio, Marjorie, affectionately known as Marge, was the daughter of Marcus and Mabel (Thompson) Hensel. She graduated as valedictorian of the Morral High School Class of 1950.

At the age of 17, she married the love of her life, James I. Howell of Centerville, Indiana. After a brief time living in Marion, Ohio, the young couple moved to Indianapolis, where Jim attended Butler University on a scholarship and Marge worked as a clerk at the Shell Oil Company. She became an enthusiastic supporter of Butler athletics, attending both basketball and baseball games.

When Jim joined the U.S. Army, Marge returned to her parents' home in Marion, waiting faithfully for his two years of service to conclude. The couple then settled in Centerville, Indiana, where they raised their family and became deeply involved in the community.

Marge was a woman of faith, music, and service. She was a member of Centerville Christian Church for over 60 years, serving many of those as the church's choir director. She also sang in and led the bell choir. Later in life, she enjoyed her work at H&R Block and was an active member of the Red Hat Society. She served for many years as secretary of the Centerville-Abington Senior Center.

She had a passion for gardening, especially growing flowers and vegetables, and loved baking pies for her family. A devoted fan of sports, Marge rarely missed a Cincinnati Reds game, a Butler basketball matchup, or a major tennis tournament. She especially enjoyed attending Centerville High School sporting events, cheering proudly for her grandchildren and local teams.

Marge is survived by her beloved husband of 75 years, Jim Howell; her son, Brad (Debbie) Howell; and her daughter-in-law, Cinda Howell. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Ryan (Molly) Howell, Chase (Andrea) Howell, Chelsea (Michael) Berkery, and Chandler Howell. Her legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren: Berkley Howell, Britain Howell, Colton Berkery, Charlotte Berkery, and Olivia Howell.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Howell, parents; and her eight brothers.

The Howell family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff at Arbor Trace for the compassionate care Marge received during her time there.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Centerville Christian Church, 111 N. Morton Avenue, Centerville, IN. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, also at Centerville Christian Church. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Centerville-Abington Senior Center in memory of Marge Howell at 111 S. 2nd Street, Centerville, IN 47330.
