Marjorie Jane Ingram Surrett, a lifelong resident of Guilford County, NC, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on January 27, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Julius Sherrill Ingram and Mary Esther Kersey Ingram. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Edward Surrett, Jr.; her brother, Bill "Billy" Ingram; and her sister, Natalie Whiteley.
A graduate of High Point College, Marjorie earned a degree in Physical Education, where she not only excelled academically but also met the love of her life, John. Together, they built a life filled with love, joy, and devotion. Marjorie was a proud member of the Allen Jay High School 1946 girls' basketball state championship team, and her talent on the court mirrored her passion for all things sports. Throughout her life, she remained a strong advocate for physical fitness and an active member of her community.
Marjorie attended Mitchell's Grove Methodist Church in High Point, NC, where she was a cherished member of the congregation. She was also an active participant in the High Point Community Theater, where her love for the arts and her vibrant spirit shone brightly. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time at the Roy B. Culler Senior Center, where she made many lasting friendships.
She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward with deep affection. Surviving are her son, John Edward Surrett III (wife Daphene) of Matthews, NC; daughters, Sherrie Natalie Surrett of Concord, NC, and Meri Surrett Elliott (husband Domain) of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by three nephews: Robert Ingram, Bill Ingram, and Harold "Tink" Surrett; three nieces: Natalie Matheson, Judy Carter, and Marsha Wright; and her cherished grandchildren, Austin John Nettell of Charlotte, NC, Kayleigh Elliott, and Evelyn (Evie) Elliott. Her beloved dog Dunkin also brought joy to her final years.
Marjorie's legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community will be remembered by all who knew her. She touched the lives of many, and her memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of calling her a friend, family member, or colleague.
A funeral service to honor Marjorie's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Mitchell's Grove Methodist Church in High Point. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
