Mark Holder, age 58 from Canton, GA, went home to his Father on Monday, September 1, 2025. A devoted family man, Mark is survived by his wife Melissa, children Jenna and Bryce, his mother Linda and many extended family members.
Born on July 9, 1967, in Rome, GA, to Linda and William Holder, Mark was passionate about his family and the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a lifelong fan, attending games even before he started school, a tradition he would pass on to his own children. He graduated as salutatorian from Coosa High School and attended the University of Georgia until transferring to Berry College to play basketball. After receiving his athletic training degree, he then attended the United States Sports Academy for a master's degree in sports science and marketing.
After graduation, Mark began work for the City of Roswell's Recreation and Parks Department. Over 30 years, he worked in athletics and field maintenance and made many lasting friendships. After what he would famously call a two-day retirement, Mark joined Cherokee County Recreation and Parks as the facilities division director. His most important connection made at Roswell was meeting Melissa while she was working at the basketball camps he was running. Sports would be a huge part of their lives. Married in 1997, they had UGA football season tickets from the beginning. Their children were soon involved in the fun. Many of the family's most cherished memories are trips to see the Dawgs play.
His dedication to his children will always be his most significant impact. But another one of his lasting legacies will be the way he touched so many people with his deep faith. Baptized in 2017, Mark was active in Woodstock City Church, particularly with the student ministries. He volunteered on the production team when Jenna and Bryce were in high school. He extended his time to the middle school team and then later became a small group leader for The Living Room, leading a group of college men. Mark had a generous spirit and was always seeking ways to help others. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the community.
Services will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Woodstock City Church. Visitation is at 10:00am and the Celebration of Life begins at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or Woodstock City Church to support student camps.
