Mark Papenberg Obituary
Mark Henry Papenberg, age 73, of Warren, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025. Born on February 4, 1952, in Niagara Falls, New York.
Mark was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a kind soul who left a permanent mark on the lives of those who knew him. After earning his degree in Business from Central Michigan University, Mark embarked on a long and successful career in retail management. He began at JCPenney, where he spent many years, and later brought his talents to other retailers before finishing his working years at Pools & Spas A Go-Go. Known for his strong work ethic and leadership, Mark was deeply respected by his colleagues.
Mark's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a proud and loving father to Scot Papenberg and Cortney Guerrero (Cristopher), and an adoring grandpa to Cristian Guerrero. He is also survived by his brother, Todd Papenberg and many nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wendy Papenberg, and his parents, Walter and Trudy Papenberg.
Mark embraced life with warmth and generosity. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back without a second thought. He loved camping, playing softball, and cooking big family meals. In his free time, he enjoyed watching sports, reading the newspaper, collecting coins, playing cards-especially euchre-and trying his luck with the lottery and casino. He was also a fan of shopping on the HSN channel, always looking for a good deal.
A proud Chippewa, Mark remained close with his college roommates and treasured their annual reunions to cheer on their alma mater-Central Michigan University. "Fire Up Chips!" was a phrase that brought him joy and camaraderie.
Mark was baptized, confirmed, and held a deep faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His kindness, humor, and unwavering love for others reflected that faith in action every day.
Memorial Service Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 1011 West University Drive, Rochester. Visitation at church begins at 10AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Humane Society, SkyFoundation, Inc., or the St. John's Scholarship Fund.
Mark's legacy of love, generosity, and laughter will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
~Lovingly written by the family.
