Marlene Hutchinson ObituaryMarlene Hutchinson, age 88, of Euclid, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family.
Born August 11, 1937, in Cleveland, Marlene was the beloved mother of Kathleen Kilbane-Hlebak (K.C., deceased), Megin Kilbane (Daniel Mulhall, deceased), and Molly (Matt) Sedar. She was the treasured grandmother of Lauren Jusko, Kristopher Hlebak, Ryan (Sara) Jusko, Korey Hlebak, Thomas Jusko, Kathleen Mary (Brice) Comp (nee Jusko), Morgan Sedar, and Kara Sedar, and the cherished great-grandmother of Kyleigh, Kaleb, Paul John, Hayden, Harper, Jack, Jamison, Jeremiah, Josie, and Lennie-Bow; sister of Donald Keils and sister-in-law of Nanette Keils.
Raised with love and guidance by her grandparents, "Granny and Grandad" Harnish, Marlene often said their influence shaped her into the person she became, a gift she carried with gratitude her entire life. She attended St. Paul's School in Euclid and Sacred Heart Academy, staffed by the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland (OSU), before pursuing her nursing studies at Charity Hospital in Cleveland following a year at The Ohio State University.
Marlene's life was one of service and compassion. She cared for some of Cleveland's most prominent families before finding her true calling in labor and delivery nursing. Over her 42-year career as an OB-GYN nurse at Booth Memorial Hospital and University Med-Net in Euclid, Marlene found joy and purpose in welcoming new life and comforting families. She always said her greatest joy was serving others.
After retirement, Marlene continued to keep busy-working at J.C. Penney, proudly enjoying her discount on clothing, shoes, and purses. She also loved "getting a little bit to eat" or treating herself to a "cute" salad. A woman of many talents, she was also a part-owner of The Cat's Meow, an interior decorating business featured on P.M. Magazine and in Cleveland Magazine.
Marlene's life was defined by humility, gratitude, faith, and love for her family. She came from modest beginnings and never forgot to be thankful for each blessing that came her way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Det. John B. Hutchinson, parents, Charles and Virginia Smith (nee Harnish); her brother Thomas Keils, her sister-in-law Georgeanne Keils, her former husband and father of her children, Bartley Kilbane. She was also preceded in death by her loving and genuine step-father, our grandpa Horace "Butch" Keils. Thank you Grandpa and we love you Grandpa.
The family will receive friends to honor Marlene's life on Thursday, September 18, from 2:00–7:00 PM at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center Street, Mentor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 19, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with burial to follow at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marlene's memory may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve or Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School.
