HUNTER, Marquia Lashawn "Quia" was born Thursday, November 20, 1986, at Miami Valley Hospital to her beautiful mother, Jennifer Ann (neé Threats) Hunter, and father, Mark A. Hunter with her lips perched and ready to start her journey in the world. Since birth, she has been sassy, goofy, loving, friendly (never meeting a stranger), and outgoing. Quia loved Dayton because it was the home of her family and friends. However, she loved to travel to see what the world had to offer, which she called "roadhouse".
Marquia brought light and laughter to all she was around. She had a mothering heart for her little cousins and friends' children. Her greatest achievement was realized when she became the proud mother of Abraham C. Johnson on July 11, 2018. Abraham was the light of her world and "son, son; boy, boy, boy; or her little bubby."
Marquia graduated from Belmont High School in 2005 and was a JROTC officer. She would come to meet her best friends, Christina Fisher, Latisha Jordan, and Nekena Jones, in ROTC. They remained her close friends until her untimely passing. Marquia is also a graduate of ITT Technical Institute, class of 2008. She was the assistant manager of Auto Zone and was very close to her co-workers and customers. She was talented at repairing cars, making her career a perfect fit.
Marquia was baptized at an early age at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Junior F. Greenlee, where she sang in the children's choir and was an active member of the youth program. Quia enjoyed attending church with her beloved Pawpaw and Mamaw, her early role models. She was even inspired to join JROTC by her grandfather, Andrew Threats, who was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and grandmother Zeta who was a first class sergeant for 25 years. Quia was an enthusiastic storyteller and was always the life of the party; she loved to play spades, rap, dance, take pictures, shoot pool, joke, and enjoy herself. Her smile and expressive face will be sorely missed. She was deeply loved by her son, siblings, family and friends.
Marquia was preceded in death by her lovingly supportive mother, Jennifer Ann (neé Threats) Hunter; grandparents, Andrew and Barbara A. (neé Roberts) Threats and Zetta M. (Derrick) and James L. Hunter, Sr. all of Dayton, Ohio; great-grandparents, Ed and Izora (neé Poole) Threats of Ashland, Alabama, Leroy and Mattie (neé Childs) Roberts of Middletown, Ohio, Robert S. Derrick and Johnnie Mae Lane of Dayton, Ohio; beloved uncles, James L. Hunter, Jr., and Robert S. Hunter of Dayton, Ohio; cherished brother-cousin, Dwayne A. Pope of Dayton, Ohio.
Marquia leaves to cherish her memory a loving and adored son, Abraham C. Johnson; father, Mark D. Hunter; three loving siblings, Mark Hunter II, Natasha Hunter, and Marteno Hunter-Gibson, all of Dayton, Ohio; eight loving aunts, Regina (James) Burdette, Andrea (Charley) Bush, Brenda Pope, Cindy Hunter-Bryant (Earl), and Sharita Person all of Dayton, Ohio, and Mardrette Summerville of Louisville, Kentucky; cousins, Antoine (Viviana) Bush of Tampa, Florida, J. Michael (Audra) Carter of Indianapolis, Indiana, Nickole Bush, Drewmar Threats, LaToya Threats (Darnell), Lachelle Pope, Tiffany (Kilo) Simmons of Dayton, Ohio, Elisha Carter, Jacob Carter, and Naomi Summerville of Lousiville, Kentucky, Dailyn Daniels, Dereon Gray, Denise Gray, Diamond Threats, DJ Threats, Aziah Threats, Taylor Bryant, Brandon Hunter, Miracle Hewitt, Damoni Newman, Damia Newman, Ramoni Newman, Nahmir and Neeko Wilcox of Dayton, Ohio; best friends and adopted sisters, Christina Fisher, Latisha Jordan, and Nekena Jones. Her absence is felt in the lives of all who loved her, and the harsh reality that she has gone too soon can never be explained as anything but tragic. Marquia was deeply loved and cherished. No words can ever express the pain her absence has caused in the lives of her family and friends. We carry her in our hearts and memories. Your legacy lives on in us.
Calling hours for family to receive visiting friends to begin at 10am; Funeral Service to begin at 11am, both will be held at Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025. Graveside Service will immediately follow at West Memory Gardens, in Moraine.
May She Rest In Peace.
