Marsha Grace Mulhausen Maughan
Marsha was born on September 12, 1948 to Roy and Grace Mulhausen in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in Denver and attended George Washington High School. She loved to draw and paint as well as ski, hobbies that she would pursue her entire life. After high school Marsha attended BYU in Provo, Utah, for one year which included a semester abroad in Grenoble, France. She studied fine arts and French. During that year of college, her father had a debilitating stroke. She returned to Denver to help her mother care for her father. While living in Denver, she finished her degree in fine arts at Denver University.
In 1973 she met DelRay Maughan at church. They were married in the Salt Lake City temple in May 1974. DelRay was attending medical school at this time. When he completed his education, they moved to Tacoma, Washington where DelRay served in the army at Madigan Army Medical Center at Ft. Lewis. In their church ward in Tacoma, Marsha served as a Primary President. In the space of six years, they had four children: Elisabeth, Garrett, Meredith and Gunnar. Marsha loved being a mother and was active in her childrens education. She loved to read to them, play games, and help them with craft projects.
When DelRay completed his military service in 1985, the family moved to Boise, Idaho where DelRay started his private practice in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. Two years later, their son Christopher was born.
Marshas house was always immaculately clean and lovely. She enjoyed decorating her home with art, both her own and paintings she and DelRay purchased. She loved cooking healthy and delicious meals for her family. In the winter she would ski with her family and in the summer she enjoyed swimming and bike riding. She traveled extensively with DelRay to Egypt, Israel, Mexico, Peru, Mongolia, China, France, London, Tahiti, the Virgin Islands, and her favorite place in the whole world: Hawaii.
The family moved to a home they built in Meridian, Idaho in 1992. Marsha continued to actively serve in her church, frequently working in the Primary, as well as teaching calligraphy and art classes in the public schools. She also continued to excel at sewing and knitting, making blankets for babies and clothing for children.
In 2010, Marsha and DelRay served a mission in Accra, Ghana. He was the Area Medical Advisor for the church in West Africa, and she was his medical assistant. She loved the children of Africa and found great pleasure in serving in the temple in Accra as a French-speaking temple worker.
Marshas health began to decline in 2022. Two years of testing led to a diagnosis of Corticobasal Syndrome, a neurodegenerative disease with no treatment. She passed away on May 26, 2025, two days after her wedding anniversary of 51 years. Marsha is survived by her husband DelRay and her five children, Elisabeth (Jonathan), Garrett (Tiffany), Meredith (Adam), Gunnar (Janene), and Christopher (Thivanka), as well as 15 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Michael (Sherri) and her sister Marlene (David).
