Marshall L. Hopping, Jr, 77, of Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 13, 2022. He bravely battled colon cancer for 18 months. Marshall was born October 7, 1944, to Marshall Sr and Bessie (Dobbs) Hopping in Galesburg, IL. He grew up in Abingdon, IL and graduated from Western Illinois University in 1966. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in 2005, after 38 years of service so that he could spend as much time with his grandchildren as possible.
He married Carol Flynn Sullivan on January 6, 1978. She survives along with children: Shannan (John) Werckle of Peoria, Megan (Steve) Sack of Dunlap and Kevin Sullivan (Jessica Martell) of Chicago, daughter-in-law Megan Sullivan of Chicago, Brian (Cindy) Hopping, Holly (Joseph) Maslanka, Dawn (Scott) Baker and Jon (Heidi) Hopping all of the state of Virginia. He is survived by 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Barbara (Bob) Tillman of Macomb, IL, brother-in-law James (Patricia) Flynn of West Peoria and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Bob Morris, one niece and sister-in-law MaryKay Maas.
Per Marshall's request, there will be no funeral services. Cremation will be accorded. Interment will be at St Mary's Cemetery in West Peoria. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
