Obituary of Marta Lina Santiago
Marta Lina (Wilson) Santiago of Carmel passed away on March 29, 2023, at the age of 93. She was born and raised in Humacao, Puerto Rico where she met her husband, Ramon Antonio Santiago. Ramon was a soldier in the US Army. They married and traveled with the military to the then Panama Canal Zone where they had two sons, Ramon and Carlos. They later relocated to Ft. Ord where their third son, Kennedy, was born. The Monterey Peninsula became their home.
After raising her sons, Marta decided to further pursue her education at both Monterey Peninsula College and San Jose State University. Marta earned her Masters degree in Social Work at SJSU in 1982, at the age of 53. She had a long career in social work with the Monterey County Department of Social Services.
Marta enjoyed traveling, visiting Puerto Rico, keeping current with news and politics and most of all spending time with her family and furry friends, Denver and Bella.
Marta was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon, granddaughter, Ashley Santiago, and daughter-in-law Vicki Santiago. She leaves her three sons, Ramon David Santiago of Carmel, Carlos Santiago (Catherine) of Pebble Beach and Kennedy Santiago (Michelle) of Eagle Mountain, Utah. She also leaves three grandsons, Anthony Santiago of San Francisco, Daniel Santiago of Santa Clara and Joshua Santiago (Reina) of Herriman, Utah and great-grandson, Jackson Santiago of Herriman, Utah.
