Martha Helene Alexander (née Schnupp), a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, passed away on May 7, 2025, at the age of 89. A woman of extraordinary grace, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family, Martha was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Martha served the Department of Defense with distinction for nearly 30 years, most notably as a procurement agent. Her excellence and dedication earned her numerous commendations throughout her career. A lifelong learner and high achiever, she finished at the top of her class at Saint Joseph's University and the Air Force Institute of Technology – accomplishments made all the more inspiring by the fact that she did so while raising a family and embodying the role of a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her adoring husband of 66 years, Alvis; loving children, Maryann McElroy (the late Bob) and Jim (Lori); cherished grandchildren, Tim (Heather), Chrissy (John), Julianne (JR), Rebecca (Sam), and Allison; precious great-granddaughter Jacqueline; beloved brother Joseph Schnupp; and many treasured nieces and nephews. Each of them carries forward her legacy of kindness, wisdom, and boundless love.
To her family, she was simply everything: the sweetest, most caring Mommom, a nurturing and wise mother, and a wife whose love was steadfast and true. Her gentle spirit was matched by quiet strength and deep faith. Martha lived her life with purpose, guided by her Catholic faith and an unshakeable commitment to loving and serving others. Her life was a master class in compassion, humility, and grace.
Whether offering a listening ear, a warm hug, or a perfectly timed piece of advice, she always put her family first. Saturdays often found her strolling through the mall, finding joy in simple pleasures and the best deals at Macy's – a lighthearted ritual that brought her joy and reflected her timeless charm.
Though she is no longer with us, Martha's love will forever surround those she leaves behind. Her legacy is etched in the hearts of all who knew her – a shining example of a life beautifully lived.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday, May 14th from 9:30 to 10:30am at St. Albert the Great Church, 212 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30am. Interment Private.
