Her love and kindness touched all who knew her
(Matthew 5:16)
Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate the beautiful life and enduring love of our beloved
Ms. Martha Barnes.
Ms. Martha Barnes was born on May 24, 1964, in Jefferson County, Alabama, to the late
Clarence Ely Sr. and Mabel Lee Ely.
At an early age, Martha confessed to Christ and united with Evening Star Baptist Church in
Edgewater, AL. Later, she became a devoted member of Love Fellowship Christian Center in
Adamsville, AL, under the leadership of Reverend Rodney Standfield.
Martha was a proud graduate of Minor High School and earned an associate degree from
Birmingham-Southern College. She began her career in 1984 at Central Publishing, dedicating
13 years to the company. After it was acquired in 1997, she continued her professional journey
with NTAgraphics, where she devoted 28 years of service and was deeply respected for her
commitment, kindness, and dedication.
For over 20 years, Martha shared her life with Walter McNeily, who remained a steadfast and
loyal friend. She was a loving mother to her two sons, Shawntez Leonard and Demarcus
McNeily, and embraced the role of mother to her late sister Marilyn Barnes' daughters, Shamika
Bryant and Tyesha Barnes, raising them with the same unconditional love and care.
Martha cherished her bond with her devoted cousin, Sandra Paige, who was like a sister to her.
She leaves behind her loving brother, Dextral (Britanuia) Ely, with whom she shared a strong
and enduring bond, along with a host of other siblings. Martha's legacy continues through her
two precious grandchildren, Shawntez Leonard Jr. and Jace Owens, as well as countless
nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives she touched
with her love and kindness.
Martha will forever be remembered for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and the unwavering love
she gave to all who knew her.
(Revelation 21:4)
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or
crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
