Martha Jane Cox King Lafoy, 85, wife of 46 years to the late Boyce Verner King, passed away April 27, 2025.
A native of Greer, South Carolina, daughter of the late Zeb Norman and Ruth Adlina Edge Cox, she and her first husband, Boyce Verner King, Jr. owned and operated the Food King Grocery and Restaurant until leasing it out in 1998 as the Back Home Café. Mrs. King Lafoy attended Praise Cathedral and was a member of First Baptist Church Greer, First Baptist Port Charlotte, Florida, Jesus Loves You Ministries in Port Charlotte, Florida, and Greer City Council for 12 years. Martha was the founder of the Greer Family Festival for City of Greer and Teacup Ministries for Care Givers. She also led the Girl Scout Troop of District Old 96, was on Greer Housing Authority Board, and director of Greer Community Ministries. Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Surviving are her children, David King (Kim) of Seattle, Washington, Richard King of Oviedo, Florida, and Carol King Brown (Eddie) of Greer, South Carolina; a brother, Arthur Cox of Whispering Pines, North Carolina; two sisters, Joyce Dennen of Greer, South Carolina and LaLa Caddell of Whispering Pines, North Carolina; niece, Judy Myers Byrum (George) of Winston Salem, North Carolina; nephew, Eddie Myers (Donna) of Augusta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Taylor Webster (J.J.), Nicholas King (Jamie), Ashley King (Mike), Brooklyn King, and Brandon King; and three great-grandchildren, Leila King, Alana King, and Colby King.
Mrs. Lafoy was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Cox and Jimmy Cox, her second husband, Thomas Earl Lafoy, and a sister, Madline Hendrick.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Praise Cathedral Prayer Chapel conducted by Pastor Tommy Harvey and Chaplain George Bryum. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held 9:30-10:45 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Praise Cathedral Prayer Chapel.
