Martha Scholar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service - Storey Chapel on Feb. 4, 2025.
Martha Jane Scholar, 90, of Marion, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:01 am on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in Marion. She was born in Wabash, Indiana, on Saturday, December 15, 1934, to Kent and Treva (Mylin) Baker. On June 2, 1956, she married her loving husband, Robert J. Scholar. They shared 57 years together before he preceded her in death on September 27, 2013.
Martha graduated from Peru High School in 1954. She had worked at Lloyd's Flower Shop and volunteered at Marion General Hospital, where she received the Volunteer of the Year award for Indiana. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion.
Martha enjoyed spending summers at her lake cottage at Beaver Dam Lake, where her father developed property. She was always there for her family and attended the events of her children and grandchildren whenever possible. She loved playing cards, fishing, and social activities in general. Martha was an outgoing, caring, and welcoming woman, who always wanted to feed and care for the people in her life.
Survivors include her son, Paul K. (Patti) Scholar of Colorado; daughter, Susan J. (late Scott) Morrow of Marion; granddaughters, Cassidy (Eric) Scholar-Knapp and Lauren Morrow; grandsons, Charles Scholar, Harrison Scholar, and Andrew Morrow; and great-granddaughter, Beretta Valkyrie Knapp.
In addition to her loving husband, Robert, Martha was preceded in death by her father, Kent E. Baker, and her mother, Treva L. Baker.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Martha's life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Laura Marine officiating. Burial will take place at Laketon Cemetery in North Manchester, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Gilead Ministries, 212 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN 46952.

We are sure going to miss you Jane. I'm so glad to have met you and to know someone who Cassidy thought so dearly of! I wish I could have played a few more card games with you. Keep me a spot at the card table in heaven and we will play again some day! In the meantime, I will look after your beautiful Granddaughter and your precious great granddaughter until the day we meet once again!

We met Jane 15 years ago, when we moved in next door to Jane & Bob. She has been an "adopted" Indiana Grandmother to our boys Caleb & Micah, and a dear friend to Rusty & me. In all of our years, and all the places we've lived, we've never had a neighbor like Jane, who was truly part of our family. She will be dearly missed.
