Martha Villiger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by E M Coots' Sons Inc Funeral Home on Mar. 29, 2026.
Martha Ann Villiger, 94, of Jeffersonville, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026. Loving family members were at her side at The Waters of Georgetown. She was the wife of Josef Villiger, whom she adored, for over 65 years. Daughter of the late Martin and Nellie Egan, Martha was a 1950 graduate of Presentation Academy and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degree from Indiana University Southeast. A dedicated educator, she taught at many levels from fourth grade through university. While at St. Xavier and Sacred Heart Academy, she led many successful drama productions. She established a writing lab while at the Jefferson Community & Technical College and retired as an Associate Professor from IU Southeast.

A devout Roman Catholic and member of the Cathedral of the Assumption, Martha served as a lector, a writer for the Cathedral Star, and, alongside Josef, a Eucharistic minister at Jewish Hospital. During her childrens' grammar-school years, Martha was a volunteer organist at St. Anthony in Clarksville. She found great joy in classical music, kayaking, pontoon boating, camping, and spending time with her lifelong high school friends but her most cherished role was as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband and their children: Annamarie "Micky" Lightfoot (Paul), , Gregory Villiger (Pam), Eric Villiger (Sandy), Daniel Villiger (Jennifer) and Theresa Orr (Tom), along with 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at The Cathedral of the Assumption, with burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Food For The Poor or the Alzheimer's Association.
