Westford - Marvin passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 25, 2023. Marvin was born in December of 1935, the son of Robert H. and Ethel R. (Hunt) Mannings. He married the love of his life Donna Root Mannings on March 13, 1965.
Marvin began his career by driving a milk route for Ross Phelps at the age of 15. He then went on to drive for Merrill Transport. In 1960 he started working for Vermont Paving in Williston, VT, which then became Frank W. Whitcomb Construction located in Winooski, VT until he retired after 37 years. After retiring in 1997 he continued driving truck for another 13 years for his son, Robert.
Marvin enjoyed driving truck and worked tirelessly. But when he did have down time, he enjoyed watching the Red Sox and NASCAR races. He was an avid hunter known for finding his best deer in his own backyard.
Marvin is survived by his children, Robert J. Mannings of Westford, VT and Michael S. Mannings of Milton, VT; his grandchildren, Samantha, Amanda, Jordan Lee, Jordan Lindsay, Ashley, Kassidy and Michael; his great-grandchild Henry; his sisters-in-law Beverly Mannings, Judy Pratt and her husband Peter, Lourraine Vanslette and Lynn Root; his brothers-in-law Bernard Root, Jr. and his wife Sandra, Richard Root and his wife Dianne, Ronald Root and his wife Veda, Larry Root and his partner Lisa, Richard Davis; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his good friends Reggie and Terry Smith.
Marvin is predeceased by his father, Robert H. Mannings; mother, Ethel R. Mannings; wife, Donna Root Mannings; brother, Maurice R. Mannings; father-in-law, Bernard J. Root; mother-in-law, Rose Marie (Tucker) Root; and sister-in-law Barbara Davis.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 1st from 5:00 – 8:00pm at A.W. Rich Funeral Home 57 Main Street, Essex Junction. Burial will take place in the spring at Brookside Cemetery in Westford, VT with time and date to be announced.
