East Providence -Mary J. (Estrella) Capuano, 94, a cherished matriarch and beacon of warmth, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at RI Hospital Providence, RI. Born on October 1, 1931, in East Providence, RI, Mary lived a full and enriching life, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
The wife of the late Vincent A. Capuano and daughter of the late Adolph F. and Mary F. (Pike) Estrella, Mary's life was a testament to the power of familial bonds and enduring friendships. She was the loving mother of Christine McLacken and her husband John of East Providence, Barbara Daniels and her husband Tim of Berkley California, and Rosemarie Pasquarelli of Warwick. She was the sister-in-law to Claire Estrella of Pawtucket and predeceased by her brother Joseph Estrella, Mary's familial ties extended far and wide. She was the cherished aunt of Linda Santos, and the late Peter Estrella, and the doting great aunt of Justine.
Mary's role as a grandmother was one she held dear, providing guidance and love to Scott Jenkins, Stephanie Pasquarelli, Nicholas Pasquarelli, and Rebecca Rios and her husband Isaiah. She was also a proud great-grandmother to River, Serenity, and Inara. Her family circle grew with her role as a stepmother of three and step-grandmother of five, each of whom she loved deeply.
Professionally, Mary dedicated many years to the Nephrology Associates of East Providence, where she specialized in medical billing and accounts receivable. Her work ethic and commitment to her role were evident to all who knew her.
Residing at the Atria Assisted Living in Barrington for the last two years of her life, Mary previously lived in East Providence, where she was a familiar and beloved figure. She was a devout parishioner, first at St. Margaret Church in Rumford and later at St. Luke Church in Barrington. Her community involvement included membership in the Sons of Italy in East Providence and a lifetime membership in the PTA.
Mary's interests painted a picture of a woman who embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She looked forward to her yearly trips to Las Vegas and found pleasure in simple joys like reading, eating out, playing bingo, and most importantly, spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Described by those who knew her as loving, kind, and thoughtful, Mary's presence was a comfort and inspiration. Her ability to listen with an open heart and offer support without judgment endeared her to many. Mary's life was a journey of compassion and generosity, touching the lives of everyone she met.
As we bid farewell to Mary, we reflect on a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved. Her spirit and memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. Mary J. (Estrella) Capuano's story is not one of an end but a lasting legacy of the love she shared and the lives she touched.
