Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors - BorgerMary Nell Gaines, born on September 13, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
A graduate of Borger High School in 1973, Mary moved to Borger, Texas, with her beloved mother and father at the tender age of two in 1959. Mary was deeply devoted to her loved ones, particularly her grandchildren. She is survived by her grandson, Tevin James and wife, Britni; her daughter, Jamaica Drew; her sister, Martha Lynn Gaines Robinson husband Jonathan Robinson, all residing in Oklahoma City; as well as her brother, Pete Gaines, from Borger. Her loving spirit also lives on through her grandchildren, Karmelo Drew, Kane Drew, Legacy Drew, Lyrik James, her niece Marcellina Gaines, and her nephew Antonio and his wife Shelby Gaines.
Mary enjoyed going to church, fishing, and nurturing her talent for growing plants.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lizzie; her daughter, Constance Gaines; her brother, Walter Gaines Jr.; and one great-great niece named Anaya.
A memorial service to honor Mary will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the New Zion Baptist Church in Borger, Texas, at 10:30 AM with Cookie Taylor officiating.
