Mary Kathryn Gray Mary Kathryn King Gray passed from this life on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she was tenderly cared for by the staff of Winterhaven, Hospice of the Piedmont, and her daughter, Janie. Kathryn was born in Springfield, Missouri, on November 15, 1921, as the oldest daughter of Claude Porter King and Peg Gaff King. She grew up in Springfield attending the Greenwood School and Drury College. Kathryn graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in political science and married her high school sweetheart, Roger West Gray. Through his Navy service, they lived in numerous locations before settling in Virginia Beach in 1959. Kay was an industrious community participant ser-ving in many organizations including Church Women United, League of Women Voters, Chesopeian Colony Garden Club, Meals on Wheels and Girl Scouts of America. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach for over 40 years. Kay was a kind and faithful person who sought support for the disenfran-chised and worked to do good for those around her. She is survived by her sister Carolyn King Craig of Midland, Texas; her daughter Janie Gray Hunter and her husband, Gary, of Charlottes-ville, Virginia; and grand-children Laura Kathryn Hunter and Charles Raymond Hunter. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, Virginia, at 11:30 a.m. Friday April 11, 2008, with a reception following.
