Mary Hemp, age 83, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, at the Christian Homestead surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on January 19, 1942 in Waupun, the daughter of Gordon and Esther TeBeest. Mary graduated from Waupun High School and moved out to California where she worked at The Aerospace Corporation. Shortly after moving back to Wisconsin went on to marry Brian Hemp, with whom she shared two wonderful children. Her family brought her immense joy and pride. Mary was a dedicated and hardworking office administrator, devoting her career to several esteemed organizations, including the Leader News, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After a remarkable over 50 years of service she retired, leaving a legacy of commitment and professionalism.
Mary's vibrant personality shone through in every aspect of her life. She had a passion for painting and a desire for adventure that led her to travel extensively, including a memorable missionary trip to Cuba, where she graciously brought Bibles to share with those in need. A woman of deep faith, she was an active member of the First Reformed Church and participated proudly in the church's Bell Choir.
Mary cherished her travels, including to Hawaii on her own, embracing her love of the sun. She held dear her moments spent with her sisters, creating countless cherished memories and celebrating Birthdays each year. Her bond with her siblings remained strong throughout her life.
Mary is survived by her two children; Eric (Michelle) Hemp and Jodi (Shawn) O'Leary; her treasured grandchildren: Carissa, Isaac, and Diedrich Hemp; five siblings: Judy (Curt) De Vries, Linda (Ron) Bresser, Ellen (Vince) Decker, Wayne (Cindy) Te Beest, and Dennis (Betty) Te Beest. Mary also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and special friends who were fortunate to know her warmth and kindness.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Gorden and Esther Veleke TeBeest; niece, Emily Decker, niece by marriage Lisa Welty and nephew Douglas Welty
Funeral services for Mary Hemp will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 1 p.m. at First Reformed Church in Waupun with Pastor Barry Lang officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service.
