Mary Jane Henczel, 97, it is with heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Jane Henczel, a beloved longtime resident of Naperville, IL, on August 23, 2024, at the age of 97.
Mary was born on May 19, 1927, in Williamstown, PA. Her life was a rich tapestry of love, dedication, and service to her family and community. She was the devoted wife of Ronald J. Henczel, who preceded her in death and whose memory she cherished throughout her life.
Mary was known for her vibrant rose garden and her fondness for cardinals, symbols of the beauty and serenity she found in nature. She had a zest for life that was evident in her love for cooking, spending time with her family, and embarking on road trips. Mary's adventurous spirit led her family on many escapades, from white-water rafting to rollercoasters and exploring underground rivers, always embracing the thrill of the unknown.
Mary's professional journey was as varied as it was impressive. She began her working life folding towels in a laundromat, then moved on to a position at the Coca-Cola Company, where she played a role in naming the iconic "Sprite" soda. Her career also included roles in cosmetology, retail, and a drapery company, but her most cherished role was that of a homemaker and devoted mother.
She is survived by her loving children, Christopher Henczel and Suzanna (Michael) Marks; her adoring grandchildren, Katrina (Robert) Unizycki, Amanda Marks, Corrine Marks, and Michael Marks (Monika Puciaty); her cherished great-grandchildren, Makenzie Marks and Liv Unizycki, Sister-in-law Roma Uszuko, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald John Henczel; her parents, Michael Uszuko and Mary Polinko; and her siblings, Anna Uszuko, Charles Uszuko, Michael Uszuko, John Uszuko, George Uszuko, and Stephen Uszuko.
A devoted member of Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mary's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both joys and challenges.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Edward Hospital and Residential Hospice for their compassionate care during Mary's final days.
Mary will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, perseverance, and grace will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind cherished memories that will continue to inspire and uplift those she loved. Mary will be fondly remembered for her smile and bringing happiness to others.
The Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 3, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Friedrich Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday September 4, 2024 at 11AM at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville.
