Maria Antonia Giuseppa (Leone) Lysick, 70, passed away peacefully Wednesday,February 28, 2024, at Baystate Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Martone, in the province of Reggio Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late George C. & Rose (Severino) Leone.
Mary was educated in Springfield, attending Our Lady of Mount Carmel School followed by Cathedral High School class of 1971. She was married to Peter M. Lysick, who predeceased her in 2007.
Up until her retirement in 1998, Mary was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an institutional Parole Officer serving in both Hampshire and Franklin County Houses of Correction and at the Western Mass Correctional Alcohol Center at Howard St. Over her career Mary received some notable awards including the Governors Merit of Recognition Award from Governor Michael Dukakis; presented to employees who selflessly reflect a deep commitment to serving the people of the Commonwealth and exemplify the highest standards of public service. In 1998, Mary received a letter of proclamation from SpringfieldsMayor Michael J. Albano for her dedication and commitment to public service.
Mary took tremendous pride in her Italian heritage. Recently, she was the driving force in bringing back the Assunta Feast to Springfield. A true Calabrian, she exemplified loyalty and courage with a fieriness that could not be matched. Mary was a member of the Italian Cultural Center of Western Massachusetts as well as a member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy.
Mary Leaves behind her daughter, Andrea Tricarico of Lakewood Ranch, FL, son, Michael J. Lysick of Springfield, brother, Joseph J. Leoneof Easthampton, and many cousins in Italy and Australia. She also leaves behind her beloved pet Nunzi who enjoyed their many car rides together and loyally, never left her side.
Marys family would like to thank her many friends who have showed unwavering support during this difficult time, as well as Baystate Medical Centers ICU team for their tremendous efforts, compassion, and professionalism during her short stay.
Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, March5th, from 8-9 a.m., at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield, proceeding to Marys 10 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Her entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Dakin Humane Society located at 171 Union Street in Springfield.
