Mary Beth McCarthy died among close family and friends at her home in Erie, PA on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the age of 67. She is survived by her husband Dennis, her sons Robin and Cory, her brothers, Tom and Joe, and will be remembered by many loving friends.
Mary Beth devoted herself to others. In her profession as a career counselor, she found fulfillment in helping college students find their paths and often happily extended her skills to others in search of their next journey. She also volunteered her time to schools, educating young people on purposeful gardening and environmental stewardship. Perhaps most of all, she was dedicated to her loved ones, especially as a parent where she was tireless in her efforts to provide the best upbringing to her sons.
Through all these pursuits and others, she fostered an ever-growing circle of close friends who were often more like family. Always with community and companionship in her heart, she drank in literature, visual arts, music, theater, and spiritual studies with others.
A great admirer and supporter of the arts, she was constantly inspired to create in her free time. Her primary media were flower bulbs, seeds and shovels, which she used to create the remarkable and lush gardens she will be remembered by.
The last days and months of her life were spent surrounded by a gentle yet energetic torrent of people who loved her dearly, a testament to the generosity and energy with which she engaged individuals and the community.
