It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Jane Toombs, age 94, of Irving, Texas. Mary passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Irving, surrounded by her three devoted children.
Mary was born on February 23, 1931, near Nolanville, Texas, to Elmer David Sutton and Ettie O'Vera Nancy Cox Sutton. She graduated from the Shannon School of Nursing in San Angelo and earned an Associate of Arts degree from San Angelo Junior College. Mary served as a dedicated Registered Nurse for many years until her retirement, touching countless lives through her compassion and care.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 69 years, Drexell L. Toombs; her sisters, Barbara Highnote, Nelle Turner, and Evelyn McCartney; her brother, Douglas Sutton; and three grandsons: Fran Erck, Shaun Toombs, and Gahlen Dinkle.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children: David Toombs, Beverly Karnath, and Terri Taylor; her grandchildren: April Prince, Joy Lee Cachay, David Toombs, Jr., and Michael Dinkle; many great-grandchildren; and a soon-to-be-born great-great-grandson.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 4th, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville, Texas.
Visitation for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, July 30th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Colonial Funeral Home in Irving. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Mary, please visit our Tree Store.
