Maryanne Raye-Rowles passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 87 on January 30, 2024, at her home in Bluffton, South Carolina.
The eldest daughter of the late Clifford Raye and Lillian Raye ("Doust"), Maryanne was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and grew up in Monmouth Beach along with her brother, Steve and sister, Kathy where she developed a love for coastal living. She graduated from Redbank Catholic High School and went on to receive her Bachelor's degree in English from Georgian Court College.
After graduation, Maryanne worked in New York City for a prominent advertising firm, and it was during this time that she met and married Walter Rowles with whom she had three sons. Maryanne was a wonderful mother to her three sons, and she devoted herself to raising them to be loving men, husbands, and fathers. Maryanne was known for her sense of humor and warm smile. She was an avid reader, a great conversationalist, loved traveling, enjoyed playing tennis, and spent much time nurturing her many friendships established over the years.
Maryanne was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. Maryanne is survived by her three sons Evan Rowles (Michelle Greenawalt), Matt Rowles (Sarah), and Brian Rowles, her sister Kathy O'Connor, 9 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors Friday, February 9, 2024 from 2-3pm at Sauls Funeral Home, Bluffton, SC with a Celebration of Life immediately following at 3 PM. The service will be live-streamed (see below). A private entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum, Malden, MA at a later date.
