On June 2nd, 2025, MaryBeth Peterson Greenleaf of Farmington, Utah, passed away after celebrating her 75th birthday on May 21st. She was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer just under two months before her passing, after struggling for several months unaware.
Born in Rigby, Idaho, MaryBeth grew up in St. Anthony, Idaho. She attended Ricks College and then Utah State University where she met and married her husband, Norman Karl Greenleaf in 1970. Together they had four children. They spent much of their time while raising their family in Bakersfield and Santa Maria, California. After moving to Utah in 1996, MaryBeth returned to college and attended Weber State University. She had classes with two of her daughters while attending there. She graduated with a degree in Family Studies. She received her Social Work license and dedicated her career to the Department of Child and Family Services, where she worked tirelessly to protect and uplift vulnerable families. Her life's work reflected her core values-kindness, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the wellbeing of others.
MaryBeth cared lovingly for her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. She was a proficient organist and pianist and played for her local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regularly. Those who knew Beth will remember her as a beloved friend, mother, sister, and neighbor. She was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and delightful sense of humor. MaryBeth traveled to many places around the world but in her final years she loved most being at home with her husband and beloved chihuahua, Rico. Her presence brought comfort and joy, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who loved her.
MaryBeth is survived by her husband, Norman Karl (Mayfield) Greenleaf; her children: Jenifer (Cameron Halversen), Christopher Mayfield (Michelle Trump), Shawna Jill (Nathan Bell), Julie (Scott Bangerter); eleven grandchildren: Samantha (Addison deVries), James (Brittany Green), Taylor (Dylan Dusek), Brookelle, Justin, Presley, Kate, Zachary, Marisa, Hank, and Luke; and four Great-Grandchildren: Amelia, Anders, Lewis, and Evelyn.
She is also survived by all of her sisters and one brother: Linda (Glenn Young), Janice (Doolittle), Sherie (Junior Goring), Timothy Peterson (Suzette), Paulette (Jerry Bratt), and Dawna (Tage Hansen). She is preceded in death by her parents: Von and Phyllis Peterson; her parents-in-law; several brothers-in law; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
