Marylyn Dunn Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Marylyn Margaret (Brown) Dunn, age 74, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025.
Born in Bakersfield, California, Marylyn lived a bold and unconventional life full of personality, movement, and meaning. Over the years, she called many places home, from a farm outside Bronte, Texas, to the bright lights of Las Vegas, but spent much of her life rooted in West Texas. She was always up for a change of scenery and loved the thrill of traveling, especially snorkeling the waters of Vanuatu and Cozumel.
Marylyn was a strong, independent woman whose life was marked by perseverance, generosity, and deep love for her family. She operated grocery stores in Bronte and Robert Lee, later worked for DeVry University, and eventually became self-employed, turning her passion for jewelry-making into a small business she truly enjoyed. Of all the roles she held in life, none meant more to her than being a mother and grandmother.
She loved spending time with her family and friends, never missed a chance for a good laugh, and had a stubborn streak that made her unforgettable. Marylyn was fiercely loyal, spoke her mind, and never pretended to be anything she wasn't. On one of her last travel adventures, a cruise with her family, she hit the gas a little too hard on her mobility scooter and nearly launched herself off the gangway between the ship and the port. Her family almost had to dive in after her. It was terrifying in the moment, but they laughed about it the entire drive back from Galveston. That was Marylyn in a nutshell: full throttle, a little dangerous, and hilarious.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sellers Brown and Margaret Irene (Collins) Brown, and her half-brother, Robert Abbott. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Scott; her grandchildren, Jaylon Seales, Kyalyn Seales, Jamison Seales, Elijiah Jaso, and Jared Mendez; her niece, Christina Cheeseman; and her close friend, Steve Woods. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Aggie.
Marylyn will be cremated per her wishes. No formal service will be held. Her family invites anyone who knew her to honor her memory by living life with a little more boldness and humor, and if you ever get the chance to pop a wheelie in her honor, she'd probably approve.
