Matthew Edward John Arney, 63, of Fortville, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Indianapolis. He was born August 14, 1961, in Indianapolis to John Leroy and Norma (Smith) Arney. Matthew graduated from Scecina High School in 1979 and later began his career in fire service at the Grand Canyon. Matthew later retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department after 26 years, having worked with the Hazardous Materials Team and spending his entire career at Station 13 at Ohio and West Streets in Indianapolis.

Matthew was of the Catholic faith and a member of the I.A.F.F. Local 416. He enjoyed hunting, boating at Dale Hollow, the Indianapolis 500, both Indiana University and Purdue University basketball as well as all other college sports. He dabbled in wine making and enjoyed a good, breaded tenderloin. He was a cold beer on a lake kind of guy who was known for his M.A.T. meals.

Matthew is survived by his wife Denise (Fraser) Arney, whom he married April 22, 1986, daughter Deb (Jordan) Lawyer of Markleville, Becca (Jacob) Williams of Markleville, Sarah Arney of Fortville, son Jim (Shelby) Arney of McCordsville; granddaughter Chloe Lawyer, siblings: Tim (Cindi) Arney of English, IN, Lisa (Kevin) Stinson of Anderson, Joy (Richard) Fowler of Fountaintown as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above and siblings Aaron Arney and Gail Eisenhut.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 4 to 8 pm at Seals Funeral Home 122 W. Staat Street Fortville, IN 46040. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Little Flower Catholic Church 4720 E. 13th Street Indianapolis, IN 46201. After funeral mass services, will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Foundation 500 N. Meridian Street Suite 100 Indianapolis, IN 46204
