Matthew Weston Cooper

Matthew Weston "Matt, Coop" Cooper, 38, of Athens, Tennessee, passed away on March 20, 2026.

Matt was born on August 27, 1987, to his loving mother, Lessia Cooper. He attended Midway High School in Roane County and later earned his bachelor's degree in graphic design. A truly creative and expressive soul, Matt was a gifted artist whose work brought pride and joy to his family. He had a passion for creating, from designing hat pins to painting, always finding new ways to share his vision with the world.

Matt had a deep love for music, especially techno, and treasured the experiences he made attending the Lost Lands Festival, missing only two years since 2016. He had a warm and welcoming spirit, never meeting a stranger and accepting everyone he encountered, regardless of race, disability, or gender.

Even in difficult times, Matt was a light to those around him, bringing positivity, kindness, and energy wherever he went. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of those who remember him.

Preceded in death by grandmother and step grandfather, Carl and Judy Rains; grandfather, Howard Cooper; and great grandmother, Gladys Whitehead.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Lessia and Danny Fagg; and many, many other loved friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 8:00pm at Companion Funeral Home of Athens. A Visitation will be held prior from 6:00pm-8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations be made directly to Companion Funeral Home to help cover funeral expenses.
