Matthew James Garrison

Matthew James Garrison, 44, of Brighton, Michigan, was born in Detroit to Brad and Sherie Garrison on September 9, 1978 and passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Matt was known for being outstandingly funny and fun to be around. He had the unique ability to lighten moods and put a smile on anybody's face even in random or difficult situations.
Matt was an avid sports fan. He loved hockey, watching football, playing softball, and watching his kids play sports. He loved 'select' animals (particularly Shanney) and was always up for travel and adventure.
Matt was a beloved middle school teacher at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran School. He loved and had a special connection with kids, but none more than his own children. He loved his wife and children more than anything and was fiercely proud and protective of each of them. His kids will always remember him for his funny antics, phrases and how he made each of them feel special.
Matt was a husband, father, son, brother and uncle who will be sorely missed by his family along with his friends and students.
Beloved husband of Susie for 18 years. Loving father of Hannah, Emmaline, and William Garrison. Dear son of Brad and Sherie Garrison. Much loved brother of Jason Garrison (Wendy), Sarah Moe (Scott), and Ben Garrison (Jenn). Son-in-law of Jerome and Marilyn Nerderman. Brother-in-law of Becky and Frank Homan, and Jay and Abby Nerderman. Devoted uncle of Max, Troy, Lucy, and Abe Homan, Eleanore and Clara Nerderman, Avery, Olivia, and Lucas Garrison, Logan, Jack, Libby, and Tessa Moe, and Abigail, Gracie, and Nick Garrison. Matt also had a special relationship with his late grandparents, Jerry and Bev Leitz.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church 2101 S. Hacker Rd., Brighton, MI 48114.
A celebration of life service will be held at the church on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 10:00am.
