Matthew Christopher Jones

t is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Matthew Jones, who left this world on October 9, 2024, at the age of 39. Born on January 16, 1985, to Catherine Jones, Matthew was a beloved son, brother, fiancé, and friend whose impact on those around him will be cherished forever.
Matthew loved God and would start every morning with a scripture and prayer. Matthew is survived by his loving mother, Catherine Jones; his sister, Stephanie Mills; and his brothers, T'Chaka Walker, Andrew Davis III, and sister-in-law Sonya Davis. Matthew held a special place in his heart for his aunts and uncles, Estella Sheffield, Janice Bowens, Dorothy Robinson, Larry Robinson, and David Robinson, as well as his cherished nieces and nephews: Trinita Mills, Torrell Mills, Raekwon Walker, Alexis Davis, Angel Davis, Andrew Davis IV, Amazing Davis, and Anointing Davis.
Matthew was engaged to his loving fiancée, Jessica Eggleston with whom he was planning to raise a family and build a life with. Matt was the proud godfather to Scarlett Wallace (parents Reginald and Whitney). He would light up whenever he spoke about her, and when he was preparing to spend time with her. Matt will be missed dearly by many family members and close friends who were fortunate to know him.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Albert Jones, and his beloved grandparents, Leon Robinson Sr. and Dorothy Robinson; aunts and uncles Samuel Holmes, Mary Holmes, Velma Holmes, Leona Robinson, Leon Robinson Jr. and Joyce Robinson.
A proud alumnus of Ware County High School, Matthew excelled both on the football field and as a member of the marching band. He continued his education at Columbus State University and later graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Georgia State University. Matthew's career as a restaurant manager showcased his dedication, leadership, and passion for serving others.
Matt enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking, working out, and watching his NFL games, especially at the stadium. To know him was to instantly love him. He has beloved friends all over the country. This speaks to his integrity, kindness, and willingness to go the extra mile to help those in need. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog Jackson.
A celebration of Matthew's life will be held at Greater Refuge Temple in Jacksonville, Florida on October 26th at 11am, where family and friends are invited to share their memories and honor the incredible man he was.
Matthew's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
