Mathew Louis Marinelli, age 58 passed away on July 11, 2023, at Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell, NJ.
He was born in Hempstead Hospital on Long Island. He grew up in North Babylon, New York where he excelled in several sports including wrestling, basketball, football, and gymnastics in junior high. He was a tremendous athlete focusing just on soccer his freshman year. He played soccer for North Babylon high school where he was selected for the Suffolk County All Star Team and received various sports and academic awards. He was offered a scholarship to Lafayette College to play soccer and post-graduation his 1986 and '87 teams were both inducted into the Lafayette Hall of Fame.
Lafayette was and has been such an important part of his life where he made lifelong friends and met his future wife, Laurie. In his college days Matt was always the life of the party and at a fraternity party one evening his senior year he spotted a beautiful blonde and asked several people who she was. Laurie was a freshman and after chatting that evening Matt, never one to have a lack of confidence, told Laurie he was going to marry her and their future after that was always together.
They married in 1993 and after several jobs and a Master's in Business from Michigan State they planted their roots in Yardley, PA.
Matt prided himself and conducted himself with honesty, integrity and hard work and instilled that in his children each and every day. He was a man that had no fear and always stepped up when nobody else would. Matt was always full of stories, pranks, super charismatic, never afraid to make fun of himself but with intelligence and wit he just loved to make others laugh. He had a larger-than-life personality and had the voice and presence to back that up. His family and friends knew him as a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, and he made it known in Eagles territory many times over just to get a reaction from the crowd.
He loved cooking and watching the Food Network experimenting in the kitchen. He also adored his Bouvier's and was reminded of that love daily by the large tattoo on his bicep. Although cooking was his passion his entrepreneurial spirit motivated him to open a State Farm Agency in Yardley in 2014 and later Goosehead brokerage in 2020. The insurance business was his livelihood, but his children Izzy and Nick were his world.
He never missed an opportunity to brag about both Izzy and Nick to anyone and everyone. He was so proud of his children, what they had accomplished and their bright futures. He spent all their younger years running from the football field, soccer fields, basketball, and volleyball courts, never missing a game if he didn't have to.
Matt is survived by his wife Laurie of 30 years and his two children Izzy(20) and Nick(18) as well as his mother and father, Barbara, and Lou Marinelli of Rockville, Maryland. He is also survived by his sisters Celia Marinelli and her husband Roger of Frederick Maryland, Beth Marinelli and her husband Finn of Oslo, Norway and Laura Marinelli and her husband Nathan of Crownsville, Maryland.
We will all miss Matt beyond words, his smile, his wit, and his one-of-a-kind presence in our lives.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the FitzGerald Field, located directly next to the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Ave. Yardley, PA 19067. Words of remembrance will begin at 5:30pm. In Lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes to honor Matt is requested to make a contribution to their favorite charity.

Thinking of Matt, prayer and love to his family. Another memory I had was of 5 th grade, Mr. O´ Dell´s class. One season the school tried to switch the curriculum and make it a different style of learning. I was a perfectionist, and several kids were cheating to complete all the work they were pouring on us independently. I was really stressing internally, having trouble sleeping at night. Matt had this way of making everything okay, in a light hearted manner. It was the light in my day at that dark time to know there was a young man who naturally knew I needed some joy and always provided it. Eventually the school figured out that curriculum style wasn´t working, and my teacher gave me a break and let me do the bulletin board three days. Many kids got jealous, but Matt never once showed any signs of jealousy, only continued to make me laugh and smile. That´s the Matty I remember!

Matt had a smile and charisma that was larger than life. I had the pleasure of playing with Matt during those 1986-87 years at Lafayette. He was inspiring and always gave 110% whether it was practice or game time. Matt´s positive energy will live on and those memories will last forever with your fraternity brothers and teammates. Here is a picture of Matt during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony a few years ago. RIP Brother
