It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Matthew David Renshaw, a beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend. Matt unexpectedly passed away at the age of 46 on Tuesday evening, March 11th.
He is survived by his wife, Hana, and son, Gavin; his parents, Ron and Judy Renshaw; sister Penny (Len) Lindquist, brother Mark (Lindsay) Renshaw; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and loving family and friends.
Matt was born on August 21st, 1978, in Elkhart, Indiana, the youngest of three children. He enjoyed a wonderfully eclectic childhood, raised around the world with his missionary parents in Indonesia and Ecuador. Matt was a lifelong follower of Christ, with a heart for service he was an example to many throughout his journey.
After graduating high school, Matt attended Bethel University earning a bachelor's degree in Christian Ministries and Sociology and later a master's degree in management from Indiana Wesleyan University. Matt enjoyed a long career within the US Courts as a Federal Probation Officer and Supervisor in Indianapolis.
Matt loved being outdoors and being active, he loved hiking (especially with his brother in Hawaii) or just relaxing around the fire. He especially enjoyed watching his son play soccer and basketball. Matt was also an enthusiastic soccer and football fan and would often be found rooting for Notre Dame or the Philadelphia Eagles. This year he celebrated his best year ever as a football fan with a strong showing for Notre Dame and a Super Bowl win for the Eagles.
If you knew Matt, you know that when it came to life, he understood the assignment. He was warm and loving, he was patient, level-headed, compassionate, empathetic, and extremely funny.
He cared about people. When he came to your house, your dogs would get a warm greeting and big belly rub. He would get on your kids' level talk and joke with them. Then you'd get a big grin and a handshake or a hug.
Matt was a true north, a moral compass, a strong example of who a Christian should be, and a true friend to all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Matt's honor to the Matt Renshaw Family Fund at https://gofund.me/10e762b9
He has told you, O man, what is good:
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?
