Matthew Eric Stengel of Richboro, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away suddenly and peacefully at home in
Richboro, PA on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 51.
He is survived by his loving parents Robert J. Stengel and Meredith A. Stengel (nee Reno). brothers Michael Stengel (Scarlett) and Mitchell Stengel. Matthew is also survived by his biologic daughter Jenna Tylor Compton and nephews Ethan Stengel and Hadrian Stengel.
Matthew is known for his hard-working spirit, passion for the outdoors, many garden projects, dedication to his family and as a caregiver to his mother. Everyone he met became a steadfast friend.
Matthew was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He attended elementary school at Sacred Heart and Christ the King in the Lehigh Valley, Richboro Middle School, Council Rock North High School and Temple University and Virginia Tech for Architecture. His education enabled him to create beautiful outdoor structures. decorations, and schematics for kitchens and more.
He, along with his brothers, always kept a garden for the family; even more so for the deer, ground hogs and birds. He enjoyed scouting, painting, playing the organ and singing in the church choir, skiing, swimming and more.
A favorite destination and work environment was Washington D.C. where he worked on Capitol Hill for several years and then Lockheed Martin and McMaster-Carr before leaving for home to assist family. His work allowed him to travel to Puerto Rico where he hoped to hone his Spanish. Matthew spoke fluent Spanish but found the people there wanted to learn more English. He also taught himself sign language. When at home he volunteered at Lahaska SPCA caring for cats and dogs and cleaning the facility.
Matthew will be missed by all who knew him. He was always ready to help anyone in need and especially enjoyed babysitting his 23 month old nephew Hadrian and many neighborhood children since he was a teen.
Friends and family are invited to gather Wednesday March 12, 2025 in Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 654 Hatboro Road, Richboro PA 18954 for a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00am followed immediately by Mass. His interment will take place privately on a later date.
