Matthew Phillip "Matt-Man" Wiker, 33 years & 15 days, of West Chester, went disability free into the arms of our Lord on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Born in Coatesville, Matthew was the son of Beverly Jayne (Nee Smith) Wiker (Carlton Hedani, who was more than a Stepfather, he was a true father) and Chester Phillip Wiker (Terri).
Matthew was a handsome lad, whose radiating smile was always on full display. He could always be spotted sporting cool T Shirts and coordinating shades. He was one cool dude, with such a magnetic personality. To know Matt-Man, was to love Matt-Man. Yes, he was truly loved by many within all aspects of his life and community.
At the mere mention of heading out for an adventure, Matt would start his happy dance as if to say, let's go! Per Mom's rules, he would never leave the house without looking good, smelling good, and tasting good.
Matt-Man enjoyed going everywhere with his Mom and Poppy Carl. He strolled all the local trails, parks and preserves. His favorite trail was the East Brandywine Trail, where he had a memorial bench placed. Matt strolled Historical sites as well as Longwood Gardens, where lots of quality time was spent enjoying Light Shows, Christmas Lights, beautiful flowers and so much more. Matt-Man enjoyed taking part in 5k runs with his Mom as part of "Team Matt-Man." Such as: Downingtown Good Neighbor Day, ARC Bubble Run/Walk, (Organ)Donor Dash, Rocky Run, Downingtown Turkey Trot and many more.
Matt-Man also liked listening to local bands at local locations. He especially loved it when his Poppy would join in for the festivities. He truly loved all genres. A sure sign as always, would be his mega-watt smile and happy noises! Not to mention all the at home music and musical instrument play. Matt loved singing to the music, with his Karaoke microphone.
Another of Matthew's all-time favorite activities was to go to Planet Fitness in Downingtown. The second his chair rolled into the parking lot, he was beyond excited. He knew he was gonna end up in his favorite place; the massage bed! He also just liked being in a fun place with his Mom and the good folks (staff and "friendly strangers") at Planet.
Matthew enjoyed making and hiding kindness rocks during his many adventures, to brighten the lives of those who found them.
Matt-Man could be seen about town, with a variety of his "friends". His best buddy was Teddy Ruxpin. Teddy was by Matt's side through thick or thin, happy or sad, healthy or deathly ill and all major surgeries. Matt's eyes lit up with pure joy every single time he heard the word's come dream with me tonight! Hi, I'm Teddy Ruxpin. Can you and I be friends?
Matthew had a special bond with his Poppy Carl. His mischievous side came out when they were together! He would literally spread himself across his bed with a huge laughing smile and eyes bright with glee, so Poppy Carl wouldn't fit into the bed beside him. This never got old and was truly heartwarming. Poppy Carl's world will never be the same without his "Little Buddy."
Matthew also shared a special bond with his grandfather, who just went by "Poppy." Neither could communicate very well vocally, but they didn't need to. They connected on a much deeper level. They both lit up in each other's presence.
Matthew was loved unconditionally and as deeply as one could love, by his Mother. He was her ride or die, trusty side-kick, soulmate, teammate and so much more than words could ever express. Matthew was her hero. He lived a life that many could never even imagine. Amazingly, he did so with the warmest, brightest, loving, joyful soul. Her world will never be the same without him. She will try and live a life moving forward, that will make him proud.
The world knew that you were here, Matt-Man! That you lived on this Earth and lived your life out loud, as you deserved to do! We are all human. Disabilities and all, you lived and you were loved! Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your spectacular journey. You now have your place among the angels, standing free from your wheelchair, with Poppy's outstretched arms to greet you and finally, a warm embrace from God! We are going to love you forever, and miss you for always. Until we see each other again dear Matthew.
