She is preceded in death by her husbands John T. Tumlin Jr. and Master Sergeant Herschel (Pat) Hamlen and siblings Lorrine Roderigas, Eloise Smallwood, Buren Smallwood, and Martha Allen, daughter-in-law, Nancy Tumlin, and grandson, Todd Tumlin.
She is survived by her sons, John (Joyce) Tumlin III, Randy Tumlin, Rodney (Melody) Tumlin, and Britt (Bridget) Tumlin, and step-daughter, Josie Hamlen, and siblings Dorothy Willis and Mary Wooten as well as 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mattie worked outside the home in the cafeteria of North Hall High School. She spent her younger days wrangling four adventurous boys. Then she often kept her grandchildren during the summer and they loved making memories with her sitting on the front porch sipping on a Coca-Cola watching the flowers bloom. She loved a good Krispy Kreme doughnut and her spoiled dogs, Gidget and Larry.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 24, 2024 from 3-6 pm at Dahlonega Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 6 pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Baker officiating.
