Maurice Swain

Maurice "Head" Swain, born on April 29, 1974, in Talladega, Alabama, was the beloved son of J.C. Swain and Cora Lee Swain. Early in his life, Maurice embraced his faith, uniting with St. Campbell Missionary Baptist Church, where he became a cherished member of the community. Maurice's journey through life was characterized by his vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness. He received his formal education in the Talladega County School System where he attended Talladega County Central High School. He made his mark in the culinary world, sharing his love for cooking with colleagues and patrons alike. Known affectionately as "Head" to family and friends, he lit up every room he entered, masterfully commanding the dance floor, filling lives with joy, laughter, and the irresistible rhythm of his heart. Maurice was definitely the life of every event and was always happy. On Sunday evening, September 28, 2025, Maurice "Head" Swain traded labor for eternal rest. He is now at the beginning of permanent reign with the Lord joining his parents, J.C. and Cora Lee Swain. As we reflect on Maurice's life, we celebrate the endless love he shared with his wife, Shani Garrett Swain; his four sons, Maurice Swain, Sr., Markeece Swain, Tristian Scott, and Marqualin Swain; his three daughters, Maurissa Swain, Tenisha Richardson, and Ashley Carmichael. He was also a devoted grandfather, leaving behind cherished memories with his grandchildren: Mackenzie Swain, Amauri Swain, Massiah Gilliam, Maurice Swain, Jr., Maverick Swain, Rauki Jones, Imiani Johnson, Londyn Amiri Scott Majesty Richardson, .Maurice's legacy lives on through his siblings, Jessie (Janika) Swain, Darrell (Tammi) Swain, Dexter (Cassandra) Swain, Foleca Swain, and Renita Swain, as well as his brothers-in-law, Gillis Levi Garrett, Eddie Fred Garrett, William Garrett, Jr., and Rodney (Mattie) Garrett; and sisters-in-law, Vanessa Garrett, Stacey (Tommy) Dates-Garrett, and Monica Garrett; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other family and friends, including the Armbrester family. Each one is a testament to the love he spread throughout his life, a true reflection of the bonds he cherished. As we grieve, let us also celebrate the beautiful life of Maurice "Head" Swain, a soul whose laughter will echo in our hearts forever. He traded his labor for eternal peace and now reigns with the Lord, joining his beloved parents for eternity. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, living on in the joy he brought to us all.
