Maurice "Smoke Bomb" Young

Maurice Laveil Young, fondly known to many as "Smoke Bomb", passed away on August 19, 2023, at the age of 42 in Peoria, Illinois. Born on September 12, 1980, in Peoria, son of Melvin Young Jr. and Sylvia "Banks" Young.
Maurice was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend. Maurice grew up attending Richwoods High School and showed resilience by completing his education and earning his high school diploma later in life.
His determination shone brightly as he achieved notable accomplishments, including securing his barber license. Outside of his professional pursuits, he wore many hats. A formidable boxer, Maurice also displayed his love for music through his rapping talents. Basketball was more than just a game for him; it was a passion. He loved taking on the task of rebuilding automobiles.
Maurice had a rhythm in his soul, often found lost in melodies or crafting his own verses. His vibrant spirit was infectious. He was the life of the party, always ready with a joke or a story to lighten the mood.
Maurice was recently baptized at 40, Maurice's faith was evident in the love and protection he offered to those around him. His affinity for children stood out; it did not matter whose they were. To him, they represented hope and innocence.
Survived by his loving mother, Sylvia Young, stepfather grandfather who took part in raising him, Bennie Payton, and four cherished sisters, Saquania (Dwight) Armour, Shanika Sims, Evelyn Young, and I-isha (John) Hudson, Maurice was a pillar of strength and warmth in their lives. His legacy continues through his children, Maurice Lavell Jr, Malik Young-Hester, Marqwuan Young, and Mariah Smith-Young, as well as his bonus kids, Amira Hester, Amber Smith, and Trayanna Rutherford, Dayshawna Brown, Kenshawna Watkins, Jerome Wade, King Ivy, grandchildren, Maurice Young III and Jayceon Young. Maurice is also remembered by a multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins.
He now joins his father, Melvin Young Jr, maternal grandparents Dossie Harris and Willie Sanders, paternal grandparents Melvin Young Sr. and Evelyn in peaceful rest. His life was a testament to perseverance, love, and joy. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy will continue in the stories and laughter he shared.
