Maury Gunn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Dec. 15, 2025.
Maury Allen Gunn Jr, 81, of Chesapeake, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025. Maury was born in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Maury Allen and Alice Skinner Gunn. He was a graduate of Great Bridge High School. It was there that he met his high school sweetheart, Linda, with whom he shared a devoted marriage.
Maury retired from Texaco Oil Company in South Norfolk, where he served as a head warehouseman and supervisor. After retirement, he enjoyed delivering flowers for the floral shop he, his wife, and his daughter, Lisa, owned and operated.
Maury was passionate about the Lord, raising his three girls in a Christian home, passing down his family's legacy. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved pool days with his family at his backyard pool, where many celebrations and cookouts took place. He spent many hours in his screenhouse, swinging in the hammock with grandchildren as they sang songs together. One of his favorite pastimes was taking annual trips to Kitty Hawk Beach, where he vacationed with all his family for 35 years. He enjoyed NFL and college football - Virginia Tech was his #1 team. For years, Maury loved quail hunting with his son-in-law, Pete, and their bird dogs. He was currently walking 4-6 miles a week with his beloved dog, Jasper.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters Kimberly Mast (Pete), Lisa Smith (Harold), Kara Farr (James); his cherished grandchildren Megan Harris (Tyler), Joshua Mast (Kayleigh), Cassidy Woodworth (Wyatt), Trey, and Noah Smith, Caleb Garnes (Gabriella), Isaiah Garnes (Aileen), and Sarah Barnes (Brian), his cherished great-grandchildren, Bella, Clara, and Luke Harris, and Lilah, Lincoln, Walker and Lockridge Mast, and Tripp Barnes and Wren Garnes and Mallory Garnes; a beloved brother in law, Michael Norman who will all miss him dearly. Maury was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Linda Gunn; his father, Maury Gunn, Sr., and his mother, Alice Gunn. Maury will be remembered for his strong work ethic, dedication to the Hokies, love for his dog, Jasper, and his deep commitment to family.
The family invites friends to pay their respects on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd., Chesapeake, VA. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA.
